Intense Pulse Light ( IPL)

WHAT IT IS

IPL is a non-invasive treatment that uses broad-spectrum light to target various skin issues. Unlike lasers, which use a single wavelength of light, IPL emits multiple wavelengths to treat the deeper layers of the skin. This makes it effective for addressing a wide range of skin concerns, including:

  • Hair Removal: IPL reduces and removes unwanted hair on areas such as the face, legs, and underarms.

  • Pigmentation: It treats dark spots, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation by breaking down pigment in the skin.

  • Rosacea and Redness: IPL helps reduce redness and rosacea by targeting dilated blood vessels.

  • Acne Treatment: It can help reduce active acne and prevent future breakouts by targeting bacteria and reducing inflammation.

  • Skin Rejuvenation: IPL promotes collagen production, improving skin texture and reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and large pores.

HOW IT WORKS

IPL works by emitting light energy that is absorbed by the pigment in the targeted areas (such as dark spots or hair follicles). This light heats the area, breaking down the pigments or hair follicles, which are then naturally removed by the body. The treatment also stimulates collagen production, improving skin tone, elasticity, and smoothness.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Before Treatment: Your provider will evaluate your skin type and discuss your concerns to determine if IPL is right for you. You may be asked to avoid sun exposure and certain skincare products, such as retinol, in the days leading up to your treatment.

  • During Treatment: A cooling gel may be applied to your skin for comfort. The IPL device will then be passed over the treatment area, emitting pulses of light. You might feel a slight stinging sensation, similar to a rubber band snap, but it’s generally well-tolerated.

  • After Treatment: Mild redness and sensitivity may occur, but these side effects usually subside within a few hours. You’ll be advised to avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, as your skin will be more sensitive to UV rays after treatment.
